Moose Brook State Park, Recreation area in Coös County, United States
Moose Brook State Park is a woodland recreation area spanning about 755 acres in the White Mountains at an elevation of roughly 1,070 feet. The park features camping sites, hiking trails, and a natural swimming area fed by Moose Brook.
The park was developed during the Great Depression in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps and opened to the public in 1936. This work program shaped the infrastructure and made the mountain landscape accessible to visitors.
The park shows how local communities use and value the mountain landscape by offering trails and swimming spots that bring visitors closer to nature. The way paths and recreation areas blend into the terrain reflects a traditional bond between people and wilderness.
The park offers camping sites and day-use access during the warmer months, typically from May through October. If you plan to swim, note that water comes directly from the mountains and remains cold.
Moose Brook flows through a natural rock formation called Ice Gulch before feeding a shallow pool that warms in the sun. This interplay between cold mountain water and natural warming creates a distinctive swimming experience.
