Mountain Park, Amusement park in Holyoke, Massachusetts, US
Mountain Park was an amusement park on Mount Tom in Holyoke that spread across several hundred acres of land. The rides and attractions were arranged across the slopes of the mountain, taking advantage of the natural terrain.
The park began in 1894 as a trolley park, a new form of entertainment destination linked to streetcar lines. Over the 20th century it expanded and became one of the major amusement destinations in New England before closing in 1987.
The park served as a gathering place where families from across the region came to spend time together and enjoy entertainment. It shaped how people from Massachusetts spent their leisure time for nearly a century.
Visitors could reach the park by public transportation and parking was available for guests traveling from Springfield and nearby areas. Access to different sections could be challenging due to the hilly terrain that made up the site.
The park used the steep slopes of Mount Tom in creative ways by positioning rides at different elevations across the mountainside. This integration with the natural landscape made it genuinely different from flat amusement parks elsewhere.
