Nunley's, Amusement park in Baldwin, New York.
Nunley's was an amusement park in Baldwin that featured both indoor and outdoor attractions including a carousel, Ferris wheel, roller coaster, and arcade games along Sunrise Highway. The park offered a mix of classic rides and entertainment options for families visiting the area.
William Nunley established the park in 1940 after relocating a carousel from Golden City Park in Brooklyn that had been operating since 1912. This carousel became the centerpiece of the attraction and defined the park's character throughout its operation.
The carousel featured horse figures with muscular designs typical of Coney Island craftsmanship. This style shaped how visitors experienced the ride and made it stand out from other amusement attractions.
The park closed in 1995, but the restored carousel was moved to the Cradle of Aviation Museum where visitors can still ride it today. You can experience this piece of history by visiting the museum instead of the original location.
Musician Billy Joel composed a piano piece called Waltz #1 inspired specifically by the carousel at this park. This musical tribute shows how the ride left an impression on local artists and cultural figures.
