Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi, Native American reservation in Athens Township, Michigan
The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi is a federally recognized tribe with a reservation in Calhoun County covering about 199 acres. Administrative offices located in Grand Rapids handle services for approximately 1,500 enrolled members.
The tribe signed a land cession treaty in 1820, but federal recognition did not come until 1995. This recognition allowed them to establish their current reservation near Battle Creek.
The band actively maintains its language and customs through gatherings and teaching that bring together community members across different generations. You can witness this commitment in how they organize events where their heritage remains a living part of daily life.
The tribal headquarters in Fulton provides administrative services, health care, and social programs. Check ahead for visiting hours and programs available to the public.
The band operates FireKeepers Casino and Waséyabek Development Company to generate revenue. These enterprises fund cultural preservation projects and community development initiatives.
