Patriots' Path

Patriots' Path is a hiking trail extending over 75 miles through Morris County, running from Essex County to Allamuchy Mountain State Park. The route crosses varied landscapes with different terrain surfaces.

The trail was established in 1968 and certified as a National Recreation Trail in 1980. It follows sections of the former Rockaway Valley Railroad route.

The trail links educational sites such as the Frelinghuysen Arboretum and living historical farms that show the heritage of the area. Visitors encounter places where the region's history remains alive today.

The trail system is clearly marked with white blazes and brown tree markers, while side trails use blue blazes and blue tree indicators. These colored markers help hikers stay on the correct route.

The route integrates with larger trail networks that span thousands of miles and connect multiple regional hiking systems. This broader web of connections makes it part of an extensive chain of walkways.
