Palazzo Chupi, Residential apartment building in West Village, Manhattan, US
Palazzo Chupi is a residential apartment building in West Village that rises above West 11th Street with distinctive pink exterior walls housing five large units across multiple floors. The structure includes indoor parking, a swimming pool, part-time doorman service, and numerous balconies with views overlooking Manhattan and the river.
The structure was built in 2006 by artist Julian Schnabel and stands on the site of a former horse stable. That original stable now functions as the artist's studio and creative workspace.
The handcrafted tiles from Morocco, California, and North Carolina throughout the interior create a Mediterranean feel that visitors notice immediately upon entering. This artisanal approach shapes how the spaces look and how residents experience daily life within the building.
The building is located in West Village, a residential neighborhood with convenient access to nearby shops and restaurants throughout the area. Note that this is a private residence and general public access to the interior is restricted.
The walls are unusually thick, ranging from 1.5 to 4 feet, providing exceptional soundproofing and structural stability throughout the residence. The kitchens feature emerald-green terra-cotta tiles and cast-concrete countertops, details rarely found in contemporary residential construction.
