Patuxent River State Park

The 6,703-acre natural area extends along the upper Patuxent River, containing dense forests, wetlands, and numerous hiking trails through varied terrain.

The Maryland General Assembly initiated the park's development in 1963, funding systematic land acquisitions from 1964 through 1968 to establish the protected area.

The park functions as an educational center where visitors learn about local ecosystems, watershed protection, and environmental conservation through guided programs.

The park maintains multiple entrances with parking areas, offering access to unmarked trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, and hunting.

The river's headwaters within the park form part of the Northeastern coastal forests ecoregion, supporting diverse wildlife populations in their natural habitat.
