Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Gothic Revival Catholic church in Dubuque, United States
Saint Mary's Catholic Church is a Gothic Revival structure standing at the corner of 15th and White Streets in Dubuque. The building features a tall stone steeple and was constructed using locally quarried materials.
The parish was established in 1849 by German Catholic families who separated from St. Raphael's Church to serve their growing congregation. This founding reflected the need for their own religious community within the city.
The church building served as a central gathering point for German-Catholic working families, offering both basketball and football teams through Saint Mary's Casino.
The church is easily accessible at a central street corner in the downtown area. Visitors can admire the architecture from outside at any time and take advantage of its proximity to nearby shops and businesses.
The tower houses three large bells installed between 1876 and 1883 that still ring today. The heaviest bell weighs around 2,300 kilograms and is dedicated to the Crucifixion, making it a distinctive feature.
