Sandusky County Jail and Sheriff's House, Historical government building in Fremont, Ohio.

The Sandusky County Jail and Sheriff's House features limestone construction with a sandstone exterior and slate roof, incorporating Romanesque Revival elements.

Former President Rutherford B. Hayes spoke at the cornerstone laying ceremony of this three-story structure on November 6, 1890.

The building design reflects late 19th-century law enforcement practices by separating the sheriff's residence from fourteen designated prisoner cells.

The structure now serves as office space for the county's human resources department following its century-long service as a correctional facility.

Architect John Carlton Johnson designed this dual-purpose building with specific areas: eight cells for male inmates and six for female prisoners.
