Scusset Beach State Reservation

Scusset Beach State Reservation is a coastal park in Sandwich spanning roughly 459 acres with a sandy beach stretching about half a mile along Cape Cod Bay. The site includes waterfront access at the eastern end of the Cape Cod Canal.

The land became a state park in 1957 after serving as a military reservation during earlier decades. During World War II, the area functioned as a coastal defense installation.

Sagamore Hill within the park grounds serves as a meeting place that holds significance for Native American communities of the region. The location reflects a long-standing connection between the land and its original inhabitants.

The park offers 98 recreational vehicle sites with hookups and a small number of tent camping spots for different needs. Seasonal lifeguards patrol the beach from May through October, making summer visits safer.

A 3,000-foot stone jetty divides the Cape Cod Canal from the beach and serves as a viewing spot. Visitors can watch ships passing through the waterway from this rocky walkway.
