Hoxie House, Colonial saltbox building in Sandwich, Massachusetts, US
The Hoxie House is a two-story residence constructed in 1675 with long sloping roofs, gun stock posts, and wide floorboards throughout its interior.
The structure served as home to Reverend John Smith, who ministered at the First Church of Sandwich and supported religious tolerance towards Quakers from 1673 to 1689.
The house contains period furnishings and household items that demonstrate daily colonial life patterns from the early settlement days of Cape Cod.
Visitors can explore the house at 18 Water Street in Sandwich from Monday through Saturday between 11:00 AM and 4:30 PM, with guided tours available.
Fresh cedar shakes were added to the exterior in 2008 using community preservation funds, maintaining the authentic construction methods of the 1600s.
