Spread Eagle Barrens State Natural Area

Spread Eagle Barrens State Natural Area is a large protected reserve in Florence County containing roughly 7,000 acres of land. The site features pine barrens and wetlands alongside upland forests, with the Pine River and Menominee River flowing through it.

The state approved creation of the natural area in 1993, with the first land purchase happening in 1995. This protection was established to preserve the rare ecosystems found in the region from being altered or lost.
