St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church
St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, Eastern Orthodox church on Bowers Street in Lowell, United States.
The red brick building incorporates Romanesque Revival details with arched windows, twin towers, and traditional Eastern Orthodox religious symbols throughout its structure.
Originally constructed in 1881 for French Protestants, the church became home to Syrian and Lebanese Orthodox Christians in 1917 who purchased and renovated the building.
The church maintains Eastern Orthodox traditions through its liturgical services, iconography, and religious education programs for children and teenagers.
Regular Sunday services take place in the main sanctuary, with additional prayer meetings and educational programs scheduled throughout the week.
The church basement formerly housed the French Protestant College, which later relocated to Springfield and evolved into American International College.
