Tsongas Center

Tsongas Center is a modern arena with approximately 6,500 seats and multiple function rooms overlooking the Merrimack River. The facility includes landscaped outdoor areas and is equipped to host diverse events and activities.

The center opened in 1998 as a collaborative effort between the city, the university, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This investment created a modern venue for sports and cultural events in Lowell.

The venue hosts the UMass Lowell River Hawks hockey and basketball teams and draws concerts, trade shows, and community events throughout the year. It serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors come together for sports and entertainment.

Film production crews used the arena in 2009 to shoot boxing scenes for a major movie production. This outside-the-ordinary use shows how the venue attracts attention beyond its regular events.
