The Sunrise Mill complex contains a grist mill with attached saw mill, a farmhouse from 1828, and a Swiss bank barn from 1795.
The grist mill, constructed around 1767 and expanded in 1819, operated initially with an internal waterwheel system powered by Swamp Creek before transitioning to turbine power after 1870.
Dr. Chevalier Jackson, a renowned laryngology specialist, owned the property from 1919 to 1958, establishing a workshop where he created medical instruments using mill-generated power.
The Montgomery County Division of Parks, Trails, and Historic Sites maintains the property, which undergoes restoration to become accessible as a historical attraction.
Within the grist mill structure, Dr. Jackson maintained both a medical instrument workshop and an art studio where he captured local nature scenes through painting.
