Thomas and Maria Blackman Bartlett House, Greek Revival residence in Cherry Hill, United States.
The Thomas and Maria Blackman Bartlett House is a Greek Revival residence located in the Cherry Hill area of Canton. The building features wooden clapboard siding, a shingled roof, and a stone-faced foundation that gives it a solid, well-constructed appearance.
The house was built around 1840 by Darius Blackman during the early settlement period of the area. Its listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000 recognized its importance as an example of early architectural development in the township.
The house reflects how early settlers adapted building styles from the Northeast when establishing their communities in Michigan. Residents and visitors today see in it a snapshot of the cultural exchange that shaped the region's character.
The house is located at 500 N. Ridge Road and can be viewed from the street along with other historic properties in the area. Daytime visits work best to see the architectural details and the reconstructed porch clearly.
The large wrap-around porch was carefully reconstructed using historical photographs as a guide, extending from the front to the south side. This reconstruction effort shows how the community worked to restore the house to its original appearance.
