Tuscarora State Forest

Tuscarora State Forest is a protected woodland spread across multiple counties in Pennsylvania, featuring mixed oak and hemlock forests with steep rocky ridges and diverse plant and animal habitats. The forest provides a range of natural environments that support wildlife throughout the year.

The forest takes its name from Tuscarora Mountain, honoring the Iroquois nation that lived here before European settlers arrived. It was established as a protected forest to preserve timber and water resources for the future.

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources manages the forest according to ecosystem principles, maintaining both environmental and recreational functions.

Two municipal water sources within the forest supply drinking water to nearby communities. The ridges also serve as a migration corridor for raptors and other birds passing through seasonal routes.
