Wild Waters, Water park in Silver Springs, Florida
Wild Waters was a water park in Silver Springs featuring multiple fiberglass slides, including the 80-foot-tall Hurricane slide and Silver Bullet speed flumes. The park also had a wave pool holding 450,000 gallons of water.
ABC Television built Wild Waters in 1978, making it one of the first water parks in the South to use fiberglass slides. The park was a pioneer in the leisure industry of its era.
The adjacent Silver Springs Nature Theme Park served as a filming location for many movies, including Tarzan and Creature from the Black Lagoon. This connection to cinema made the area appealing to production companies.
The park offered numerous recreation areas with picnic tables, a snack bar, a fast-food counter, a sand volleyball court, and a gift shop. Visitors could enjoy different activities in one location throughout the day.
The park operated for 38 years before closing in 2016, after which it was completely demolished in 2018. The site was then repurposed to create a new entrance to Silver Springs State Park.
