Six Gun Territory, Western theme park in Silver Springs, United States.
Six Gun Territory was an amusement park in Silver Springs featuring about forty buildings that recreated an Old West town, including a courthouse, saloons, a hotel, a jail, a cafeteria, and a schoolhouse. A narrow gauge railroad transported visitors through the different areas and past the staged scenes.
The park opened in 1963 and operated for more than two decades to serve the public's interest in Western entertainment. Operations ceased in 1984 as interest in this style of theme park declined.
The park presented gunfight performances and musical shows that reflected what Americans wanted to see in the 1960s. Visitors watched actors portraying cowboys and Native Americans in staged confrontations throughout the day.
Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since the park required considerable walking and the sun was intense in central Florida. Visiting on less crowded days allowed for a more relaxed exploration of the different areas.
A sixty-foot tall artificial mountain made from wooden frames, metal mesh, and mud was a signature feature of the park. This structure required regular maintenance and repairs after storms and severe weather.
