William R. Snodgrass Tennessee Tower, Government skyscraper in Nashville, United States
The William R. Snodgrass Tennessee Tower is a high-rise building with 31 floors and a height of 138 meters, featuring clean lines and glass-clad surfaces in International Style architecture. It houses more than 1000 state employees at a central location on Rosa L Parks Avenue.
The structure was completed in 1970 by the architectural firm Skidmore Owings and Merrill, initially serving as the National Life Center. Tennessee state acquired the building in 1994 to consolidate its government offices there.
The tower is named after a former governor and serves as a focal point for Tennessee's state administration in the capital city. It brought together scattered government offices into one centralized location, reflecting how the state organized its public sector work.
The building sits in downtown Nashville along Rosa L Parks Avenue and is easily accessible by public transportation from the surrounding area. Keep in mind that this is a working government office building, so public access may be limited to certain areas or require advance notice.
The building's windows were once equipped to display illuminated messages visible across downtown Nashville. During the holiday season in 2007, a special peace-themed message was displayed using this lighting system.
