Newark Riverfront Park

Newark Riverfront Park is a green space along the Passaic River with sports fields, playgrounds, and walking paths for visitors to enjoy. The facility includes exercise stations, synthetic grass fields for various sports, and several areas designed for recreational use.

Planning for the riverfront restoration began in the late 1990s, with construction starting in 2008 and initial sections opening to the public in 2012. This development ended a century-long period during which residents had no direct access to the river.

The park serves as a gathering place where neighbors enjoy live music, theater performances, and local art events throughout the year. Community festivals and celebrations here bring together people from different neighborhoods in the area.

The park has marked walking paths and ample parking for those arriving by vehicle. Seasonal conditions vary throughout the year, so visitors should come prepared with appropriate clothing for the weather.

A distinctive feature is the orange boardwalk section that is visible from Northeast Corridor trains and connects two neighborhoods to the river. This striking design choice has become a visual landmark that draws attention from passing commuters.
