Eleven 80, Art Deco skyscraper in Downtown Newark, United States
Eleven 80 is a 35-story Art Deco skyscraper reaching about 137 meters in height in downtown Newark. Its five-story base is decorated with terra cotta panels and metal trim, while the interior now contains around 317 residential units ranging from studios to two-bedroom apartments.
The building was constructed in 1930 by Grad Associates and briefly held the status of Newark's tallest structure before being surpassed in 1931 by the National Newark Building. This period marked a turning point in the city's architectural development.
The building displays the letters 'LN' above the third floor, referencing its original name from when it was first built. These letters remain visible today as a reminder of the structure's earlier identity.
The building is easily visible from the street and offers good views when walking through downtown Newark. The geometric floral details on the exterior are best appreciated when viewing the structure from nearby, especially the lower sections where the decorative panels are most prominent.
Following a major renovation in 2006, the building gained modern recreational facilities including a bowling alley and basketball court within its walls. These amenities make it an unusual example of a historic high-rise combining Art Deco architecture with contemporary leisure spaces.
