Eleven 80 is a 35-story Art Deco skyscraper in downtown Newark, New Jersey. Its five-story base is clad in terra cotta panels with metal trim, and the upper floors house around 317 residential units ranging from studios to two-bedroom apartments.
The building was constructed in 1930 by Grad Associates and briefly held the title of Newark's tallest structure before being surpassed in 1931 by the National Newark Building. It later fell into disuse before being converted into residential apartments in the early 2000s.
The letters 'LN' carved above the third floor still refer to the building's original name at the time of its construction. Visitors walking past on the street can spot this detail without entering the building.
The tower is easy to spot when walking through downtown Newark, and the lower floors with their decorative panels are best seen from the sidewalk at close range. No special access is needed to appreciate the exterior details.
After a major renovation in 2006, the building gained a bowling alley and a basketball court inside its walls, which is unusual for a high-rise of this age. These facilities sit within a structure that was originally built as an office tower, making the combination particularly unexpected.
