University Hall, Academic building in Columbus, United States
University Hall is a university building on the main campus of Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, featuring a brick facade and a prominent clock tower. It contains administrative offices, meeting rooms, and lecture halls used by students and faculty throughout the week.
The first University Hall, built in 1873, was the earliest academic building on campus and stood for nearly a century before being torn down in 1971. The current building was constructed on the same site and follows the general outline of the original.
University Hall stands on the Oval, the central open lawn of the campus, and students often use it as a meeting point during the day. The clock tower is visible from many parts of campus and serves as a natural reference when giving directions.
The building sits on the Oval at the center of campus and is easy to reach on foot from most directions. Since it is an active academic and administrative building, visitors are welcome to walk around outside, but should be mindful of ongoing classes and office hours inside.
Although the current building looks like a historic structure, it is actually a reconstruction completed decades after the original was torn down, making it younger than many other buildings on campus. The designers chose to copy the tower and overall silhouette of the 1873 original rather than build something entirely new.
