Chadwick Arboretum, Botanical garden at Ohio State University, United States
Chadwick Arboretum is a botanical garden on the Agriculture campus of Ohio State University spanning 62 acres. It displays roughly 1000 trees from 120 different species that grow naturally or thrive throughout Ohio.
Dr. John D. Chadwick established this learning space in 1980 to advance research and teaching in horticulture at Ohio State University. It was designed from the start as a place where students could study plants in a real setting.
The arboretum displays sections with roses, perennials, and wildflowers that show how gardeners in this region typically select and arrange plants. These areas reflect the gardening preferences of the local area and invite visitors to wander through them.
The garden is open daily without admission fees and offers a network of paths to explore through various themed garden sections. Well-maintained trails make walking easy, and signage helps you navigate to different areas.
Growing here is the Abies cephalonica, a tree that holds a special recognition as the largest or finest specimen of its kind in Ohio and often goes unnoticed by visitors. Many people walk past this remarkable tree without realizing its status.
