Farm Crest Bakeries building, Historic industrial building in Driving Park, Columbus, United States.
Farm Crest Bakeries building is a three-story industrial structure extending 350 feet (106 meters) along Rhoads Avenue and 80 feet (24 meters) along Livingston Avenue. The exterior features ceramic tile and buff brick, occupying a 3.5-acre site where production areas, employee facilities, and studio spaces are integrated throughout.
The structure was built between 1947 and 1949 as a cookie manufacturing facility, beginning operations in 1949 with a 200-foot continuous automatic baking oven. Its history began earlier, however, when the site operated as a cake bakery starting in 1930.
The building displays Streamline Moderne style and stands as one of Columbus's rare examples of Art Deco design. Visitors can see this distinctive architectural approach reflected in the structure's details and overall form.
The building sits at the corner of East Livingston and Rhoads Avenue in the Driving Park area and is easily accessible from street level. You can walk around to view the exterior architecture and appreciate both the size and design details from the sidewalk.
The building was designed by architect Charles W. Cloud and showcases features of a rare architectural style in the region. Its conversion to artistic studio spaces starting in 1993 gave the structure a new cultural role beyond its original industrial purpose.
