Proud Lake State Recreation Area

Proud Lake is a protected recreation area spanning 3,000 acres with extensive trails, camping facilities, and access to a section of the Huron River. The grounds support hiking, cycling, fishing, boating, and other water-based activities.

The area was established as a nature reserve in the mid-20th century, reflecting Michigan's commitment to public recreation. It has remained a dedicated space for outdoor activities and conservation in the region ever since.

Local riding clubs and mountain biking groups regularly use and maintain the trails for different sports. The community gathers here to share a passion for outdoor recreation.

A Michigan Recreation Passport is required to visit the area, and parking and boat launching facilities are available. Facilities operate seasonally, so check ahead for current conditions.

The Huron River section here holds a Type I trout stream designation, offering optimal conditions for cold-water fish species. This special classification makes it a favored destination for serious anglers.
