Parque de Recreación Alí Primera, Botanical garden and park in Caracas, Venezuela.
Parque de Recreación Alí Primera is a public park and botanical garden on the west side of Caracas, Venezuela. The grounds include sports courts, playgrounds, an outdoor amphitheater, exhibition spaces, and a small art museum.
The park opened in 1983 under a different name and grew into one of the main green spaces on the western edge of Caracas. It was renamed in 2007 to honor the Venezuelan musician Alí Primera.
The park takes its name from Alí Primera, a Venezuelan singer known for songs about social justice and everyday life. His presence is felt throughout the grounds through murals and dedications that local visitors often stop to look at.
The park is open during the day and is most comfortable to visit in the morning before the heat builds up. Wear comfortable shoes, as the paths through the grounds cover a good amount of distance.
A small network of streams runs through the grounds, and the water draws in wildlife that is rarely found this close to the city center, including cardinals, raptors, and iguanas. Walking slowly along the water edges gives visitors a good chance of spotting them.
