Dominikanerkloster Worms

The Dominican monastery in Worms is a religious complex with convent buildings, a cloister, and a three-nave basilica topped by an octagonal dome on the western end. The interior space is organized by sturdy pillars that support the vaulting and create distinct architectural sections.

The monastery was founded in 1226 and initially faced opposition from the Bishop of Worms before gaining support from local people. In 1385, the community received city rights that strengthened its standing in the urban area.

The monastery served as a training center for Dominican novices from 1993 to 2024, with members actively participating in various pastoral activities throughout the community.

St. Paulus Church at Paulusplatz 5 remains open to visitors despite the monastery's closure since April 2024. Check ahead for current opening times and any scheduled services before planning your visit.

The building combines Byzantine and early Christian architectural elements with features from the Crusades period, visible in its stone dome structures and decorative details. This blend of distant influences shapes the appearance of the structure today.
