Glen Affric, National Nature Reserve in Cannich, Scotland.

Glen Affric extends over 30 miles through Highland landscapes, containing native Caledonian pinewoods, mountain peaks, lochs, and abundant wildlife populations.

The glen belonged to Clan Chisholm and Clan Fraser of Lovat, leading to territorial disputes that culminated in the Battle of Glen Affric in 1721.

The Glen Affric tartan, discovered in a peat bog during the 1980s, dates from 1500-1600 and represents Scotland's oldest confirmed tartan pattern.

Visitors can access the reserve through multiple car parks with picnic areas, seasonal toilets, and marked paths, while ranger services provide guidance throughout the year.

The ancient Caledonian pinewoods contain trees known as 'granny pines', which survived centuries of forest clearing and support rare species of lichens.
