The cinema opened in August 1935 on the former Grey Towers estate, starting with screenings of The Phantom Light and Vibrant Lady to 1,799 patrons.
Throughout the mid-20th century, this entertainment venue served as a central gathering place where local residents experienced films and social connections.
The cinema building included a stage with dressing rooms, a café-ballroom, and parking facilities until its transformation into a bingo hall in 1973.
The original neon signage from the 1943 Odeon period remained visible until 2015, when the structure was sold to Lidl for eight million pounds.
