Lago di Gramolazzo, Artificial reservoir in Minucciano, Tuscany, Italy.

Lago di Gramolazzo covers approximately one square kilometer at 604 meters elevation, fed by the Serchio di Gramolazzo river and tributaries within the Apuan Alps region.

Built in the second half of the 20th century by SELT Valdarno for hydroelectric power generation, this artificial reservoir forms part of a comprehensive regional water management system.

The surrounding area maintains traditional Tuscan mountain life with local communities preserving agricultural and craft traditions despite modern hydroelectric infrastructure development throughout the region.

The Lake Park established in 2016 features walking and cycling paths, picnic areas, barbecue facilities, a small beach, and recreational equipment rentals including boats and kayaks.

The lake hosts the annual National Motorcycle Rally of the Garfagnana Lakes, drawing motorcyclists from across Italy for organized rides and gatherings in the scenic mountain setting.

Best natural swimming pools in Italy: wild bathing spots across the country

Italy offers many locations where one can swim in nature. From rock-carved basins to mountain lakes, hot springs, and secluded coves, the country is full of accessible water spots for those who enjoy swimming away from managed beaches. They can be found all over: in the Dolomite valleys, in the heart of Tuscany, on the coasts of Sardinia or Sicily. Some sites are accessible on foot after a short walk, others have been known to locals for a long time. The water can be icy or warm depending on the region, but it is always surrounded by scenic landscapes. These natural pools are often quiet places where people come to relax, have picnics, or simply enjoy the scenery. They reveal another aspect of Italy, one that is more straightforward and closer to nature.
