Santuario di San Paolo alla Rotonda, Romanesque Revival shrine in Reggio Calabria, Italy.
The Santuario di San Paolo alla Rotonda is a Romanesque Revival shrine in Reggio Calabria featuring three bronze portals on its facade. The central portal displays detailed relief work depicting episodes from the life of Saint Paul.
The sanctuary was built in 1932 based on the documented historical visit of Saint Paul to Reggio Calabria. Over the years, the site expanded to include the Piccolo Museo San Paolo, creating a religious and educational space.
The facade displays nine mosaic niches featuring historical figures such as Virgil, Cicero, and Seneca, representing a bridge between classical and Christian thought. Visitors can see how ancient wisdom and religious faith were intentionally woven together in this artistic program.
The sanctuary is open daily for visitors to explore at their own pace and observe its interior spaces. Respectful conduct is expected, especially during active services, and visitors should dress modestly.
The interior is covered with approximately 500 square meters of mosaics depicting scenes from Christ's life throughout the sanctuary space. Columns in the central nave feature episodes from Christ's passion and portray 36 different patriarchal figures.
