Парк природе Стара Тиса код Бисерног острва

This nature park is located along an old bend of the Tisa River near Biserno Ostrvo and protects diverse habitats within its boundaries. You will find water bodies, marshland, meadows, and salt-affected zones all coexisting in one landscape.

In the 18th century, large-scale river engineering works reshaped this area to protect settlements from flooding. These interventions created the river bends that define this landscape today.

The area reflects centuries of local stewardship and adaptation to the river's changing course. People in this region have learned to live alongside the water's patterns, which shapes how the land is valued and used today.

A visitor center on the approach road from Backo Gradiste offers information and assistance for exploring the park. It is particularly helpful if you are visiting in a group or want to learn more about the different habitats.

This location contains one of the longest regulated meanders of the Tisa River in the region, marked by three pronounced curves. The remarkable shape formed through centuries of interaction between human engineering and natural river dynamics.
