Carson 'Kit' Davidson and his wife purchased the land in 1966 and developed trails and a Japanese garden over several decades. The couple donated the entire property to the state of Vermont in 2016 to preserve it as a public park.
The Japanese garden displays traditional East Asian design elements including wooden footbridges, meditation spaces, and carefully placed stones that reflect centuries-old aesthetic principles. These features create a distinct area where visitors encounter a different cultural approach to landscape design.
The trails are open year-round and free to visit with parking available near the information building at the entrance. Wear sturdy shoes since the terrain changes from gentle meadows to steep rocky sections depending on which path you choose.
The eastern section features gentle forest walks suitable for families while the western area presents steep technical trails through rocky mountain terrain for more experienced hikers. This split makes the park accessible to different ability levels on the same visit.
