Killeavy Castle

Killeavy Castle is a Gothic mansion at the base of Slieve Gullion featuring four prominent towers and Tudor-style windows. It stands within a 365-acre estate combining farmland and woodland.

It began as a farmhouse in 1810 and was transformed into a castle in 1836 when architect George Papworth designed Gothic enhancements for owner Powell Foxall. This redesign marked a major shift in the building's purpose and appearance.

The name connects to a nearby church, reflecting local identity and the building's role within the community. Materials were sourced from earlier structures in the area, linking it to the region's architectural traditions.

The location sits about ten minutes from Newry City and provides convenient access to Belfast and Dublin. The estate operates as a hotel with on-site dining that sources ingredients from its working farm.
