Barrack Road drill hall, Military drill hall in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.
The Barrack Road drill hall is a former military building in central Newcastle that once contained stables and training rooms spread across multiple structures. It has since been converted into residential apartments under the name Barrack Court.
The building was constructed in 1890 as a headquarters for the 1st Northumberland Artillery Volunteers and later housed the 1st Northumbrian Brigade during World War I. After the war, it gradually transitioned to civilian use.
The site served as a gathering place for local military units and shaped the character of the neighborhood for generations. Its transformation into apartments reflects how Newcastle adapted its spaces to modern urban life.
The building is centrally located in Newcastle and easily reached via main transportation routes. Since it is now private apartments, visiting from outside is possible but interior access is restricted.
The building featured a specialized riding school with stabling for about 14 horses used for cavalry training in the late 19th century. These facilities were typical of military installations when horses were still an essential part of armed forces.
