Glenkinnon, Forest park in the Scottish Borders, Scotland

Glenkinnon is a forest park in the Scottish Borders, running along the Glenkinnon Burn and made up of old oaks, pines, and low shrubs. The woodland along the burn is designated as a Site of Scientific Interest because of the variety of plants and trees found there.

The land was once part of a larger estate and used mainly for timber and hunting. Over time, the Forestry Commission for Scotland took ownership, and the Border Forest Trust now manages the area for visitors.

Glenkinnon is known among birdwatchers, as goshawks can sometimes be spotted flying above the trees in spring. Along the Glenkinnon Burn, a Biodiversity Trail lets visitors observe different plant species up close.

A large oak tree near the car park marks the start of the circuit, which is well-signposted and easy to follow for families. Sturdy shoes are a good idea as the paths can get muddy after rain, and there are no facilities inside the park, so bring water and snacks.

Near the car park stands an old oak tree that is listed as a heritage tree for the region and has grown on this spot for a very long time. From a small bank inside the park, there is a clear view of Peel House, a nearby building that most visitors walk past without noticing.
