The church underwent several construction phases, starting from 1530 as a small structure, followed by an expansion in the 1600s and complete reconstruction in 1770.
The interior displays Calabrian-Neapolitan Baroque decorations, with columns and capitals topped by rounded arches, while marble covers the floor surface.
Visitors can access the church through its main entrance or the additional entrance on the right nave, with natural light entering through a large semicircular window.
The sacristy contains a carved wooden covering and houses a canvas depicting the baptism of Abbot Joachim of Fiore.
