Belvédère du Serre de Tourre, Scenic viewpoint in Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, France

The Belvédère du Serre de Tourre is a scenic viewpoint above the Ardèche Gorges, on the territory of Saint-Remèze near Vallon-Pont-d'Arc. It stands roughly 200 meters above the river and looks directly down onto the Pas de Mousse, a near-circular loop carved into the rock.

The Ardèche Gorges were shaped over millions of years as the river slowly cut through the limestone plateau. Near this viewpoint stand the ruins of the Château d'Ebbo, a 16th-century fortification that shows the area has been inhabited and watched over for a very long time.

The Belvédère du Serre de Tourre sits along the scenic road through the Ardèche Gorges, and stopping here has become a natural habit for travelers passing through. With some luck, visitors spot wild goats resting on the cliff edges just below the platform.

The viewpoint sits right on the D290 road along the Ardèche Gorges, is well signposted, and has a parking area on site. Early morning or late afternoon visits tend to be quieter, and the light at those times falls at a good angle across the canyon.

Although the Belvédère du Serre de Tourre administratively belongs to Saint-Remèze, most visitors arrive from Vallon-Pont-d'Arc and associate it with that town. The canyon below gained wider fame partly because of the nearby Chauvet Cave, where paintings dating back around 36 000 years were found.
