Longleat Hedge Maze, Hedge maze in Horningsham, England.
Longleat Hedge Maze is formed from 16,000 English yew trees arranged across 1.48 acres to create over 1.69 miles of interconnected paths. The tall hedges make navigation challenging as you walk through, with routes twisting back on themselves unexpectedly.
Landscape architect Adrian Fisher designed this hedge maze in 1975 as an expansion of attractions at the Longleat estate. The addition transformed the property into a major destination beyond its original manor house and gardens.
The maze carries on an English garden tradition, with bridges and viewing areas that let visitors look down at the pathways below.
The maze is open year-round and admission is included with your general estate entry ticket. Plan to spend an hour or more here, and arrive early in the day to avoid crowds on the pathways.
Six elevated wooden bridges and a central observation tower let you look down at the entire maze pattern from above. These viewing platforms offer relief if you get lost while also revealing the clever geometry hidden beneath the hedges.
