Moss Pink Hill, Flower garden in Hitsujiyama Park, Chichibu, Japan
The hill covers 17,600 square meters and contains 400,000 pink moss plants in nine varieties, spreading in waves across Hitsujiyama Park terrain and forming colored carpets of low-growing blooms across sloping ground.
Development of this attraction started in 2007 with a five-year plan that transformed the landscape into an extensive flower garden, fundamentally reshaping the terrain through systematic planting and landscape architecture.
The hill displays moss patterns reflecting motifs from the Chichibu Night Festival, integrating regional traditions into garden design and creating connections between natural beauty and local customs through deliberate plant arrangements.
Visitors reach the garden after a 20-minute walk from Seibu-Chichibu Station or Yokose Station on the Seibu Railway line, with optimal visiting time from mid-April to early May during peak flowering season.
Ten varieties of moss phlox create a multicolored carpet against Mount Buko, with each variety contributing different pink tones from pale white-pink to deep magenta, producing a natural color spectrum across the hillside.
