Pasaje de la Piedad, Historic passageway in San Nicolas district, Buenos Aires, Argentina
The Pasaje de la Piedad features two wide entrances on Bartolome Mitre Street, leading to a cobblestone path with 49 residential units displaying Italian-influenced facades.
The passage construction started in 1888 under Buenos Aires mayor Arturo Gramajo, with Genoese architects Nicolas and Jose Canales leading the project until its completion in 1909.
The passage maintains original 19th-century ironwork, wooden doors, and architectural elements that demonstrate the craftsmanship of Italian immigrants in Buenos Aires.
Located 800 meters from the Obelisk and three blocks from the National Congress Palace, the passage connects Montevideo and Parana streets through Bartolome Mitre.
From 1924 to 1930, the passage housed tango musicians Juan D'Arienzo and Miguel Calo, and served as a filming location for numerous Argentine movies.
