Occi, Ghost town in Balagne region, Haute-Corse, France.
Occi is a hilltop settlement at 377 meters elevation with stone ruins and abandoned buildings arranged up the slope. The structures display typical Corsican medieval architecture with narrow passages connecting the houses throughout the site.
Inhabitants fleeing from the settlement of Spano founded this refuge during the Middle Ages to escape Saracen raids threatening the Corsican coast. The settlement persisted through centuries before eventually being abandoned.
The Chapel of Annuziata draws visitors during Pentecost when members of the Brotherhood of Sant'Anton Abbate gather to sing traditional Corsican hymns within its stone walls.
Access is through a marked hiking trail starting behind Chez Charles restaurant in Lumio, with the trek taking roughly two hours each way. The terrain is rocky and steep, so sturdy footwear and basic fitness are necessary.
Felix Giudiceli, the final permanent resident, departed in 1927, marking the end of continuous habitation. Since then the village has remained entirely uninhabited except for occasional pilgrims and hikers passing through.
