Lake Catherine Waterfall

Lake Catherine Waterfall, Waterfall in Lake Catherine State Park, Arkansas.

Lake Catherine Waterfall is a cascade in Lake Catherine State Park that flows over rocky ledges within a dense forest of oak and pine trees. The water descends across several stone steps and collects in small pools along its path.

This area was developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s as part of President Roosevelt's New Deal job program during the Great Depression. The hiking trails and basic facilities around the waterfall were built during this period of public works.

The waterfall draws nature photographers and visitors seeking moments in the forest away from daily routines. People gather here to observe wildlife and experience the sounds of flowing water among the trees.

The waterfall can be reached via a hiking trail that is roughly 3.5 kilometers long with moderate elevation changes and several stream crossings on wooden bridges. The path can become slippery after rain, so sturdy hiking boots are recommended.

The water flow at the waterfall changes dramatically throughout the year, creating different visual formations and patterns as seasonal rainfall and snowmelt vary. During spring the cascade is much more powerful than during drier summer months.
