Cachoeira do Abade

Cachoeira do Abade, Natural waterfall in Pirenópolis, Brazil.

Cachoeira do Abade is a waterfall within a protected nature reserve near Pirenópolis, where water cascades over smooth rock surfaces into a large pool below. The Rio das Almas river feeds this waterfall, which is framed by dense vegetation and towering rock walls.

The area around this waterfall was long part of Pirenópolis's mining landscape before the region shifted focus toward conservation. The shift from mining to protected land happened gradually as gold extraction from the 1700s era came to an end.

The cascade flows into a natural pool where locals and travelers alike gather to swim and cool off on warm days. People view this spot as an important connection to the natural landscape that surrounds their region.

The path to the waterfall is relatively short and moves through the forest with occasional steep sections that can become slippery when wet. Wearing sturdy shoes and bringing water is wise, especially on hot days.

This waterfall is part of a larger network of cascades within the reserve, each with its own size and character. Exploring multiple falls in one visit reveals how water shapes the landscape in different ways across the area.
