Marfa Lights Viewing Area, Observation point along Highway 90 near Marfa, Texas.
The viewing area provides an elevated position on Mitchell Flat for observing unexplained light phenomena in the dark Texas sky.
Since 1883, when cowhand Robert Reed Ellison first documented the lights while driving cattle through Paisano Pass, observers have reported mysterious illuminations.
Local residents and visitors gather at this designated spot to share stories and experiences about the unexplained lights that appear in the desert.
The viewing site, located at 92521 US Highway 67/90, remains open every day without admission fees and includes informational plaques about the phenomenon.
Scientists from Texas State University conducted spectroscopic analysis of the lights in 2008, examining their properties through specialized equipment.
