Davis Mountains State Park, State park in Jeff Davis County, Texas.
Davis Mountains State Park is a protected natural area in the Trans-Pecos region spanning more than 2,700 acres of mountain terrain and rock formations. The park has a network of hiking trails, mountain biking paths, and horseback riding routes that pass through different elevations and landscape types.
The area was developed as a protected natural area during the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department took over official management of this land in 1938.
The Interpretive Center displays exhibits about local plants and animals native to the region. Visitors can watch birds and other wildlife through the indoor observation window while they move through their natural habitat.
The park sits at a higher elevation, which brings cooler temperatures and different weather patterns than surrounding regions. Visitors should come prepared for variable conditions and pack appropriate layers and gear for their activities.
The park's elevation causes temperatures to run roughly 5 to 8 degrees Celsius cooler than in the Texas plains below. This creates a climate that feels distinctly different from the hotter, drier surroundings outside.
