Carrousel Passage Saint Jacques, Venetian carousel in central Reims, France
Carrousel Passage Saint Jacques is a wooden-horse carousel located in the heart of Reims, situated within a Y-shaped pedestrian passage between Rue Condorcet and Rue de Vesle. The installation features decorated riding figures and sits near Place d'Erlon, offering traditional rides for visitors of all ages.
The passage replaced the earlier Passage des Varietes, which was destroyed by bombardment during World War I in 1918. After the war, the site was rebuilt and the carousel installation came later as part of restoring the city center.
The carousel serves as a gathering place for families and adds to the festive atmosphere of the city center. It reflects the French tradition of enlivening public spaces with classic amusement attractions.
Access is through the Y-shaped pedestrian passage that connects with other shops and passages in the city center, making it easy to reach on foot. The best time to visit is on weekends and during school holidays, when more visitors arrive and the atmosphere is more active.
The carousel occupies the site of a historic passage that creates a hidden world between two major streets of the city center. This location makes it a place that many visitors discover by chance while exploring the pedestrian areas.
