Fontaine Subé, Monumental fountain in Place d'Erlon, France

Fontaine Subé is a monumental fountain on Place d'Erlon with a central column decorated with vine patterns. Four statues around the column each represent a different regional river.

A wealthy donor funded the construction of this fountain in the early 20th century, replacing an older statue. The work was later damaged by wartime events and received a new crowning figure.

The four shells pouring water represent local rivers and show how important water sources are to the Champagne region. This representation reflects the city's connection to the natural waterways around it.

The fountain sits centrally on a public square and is easily accessible from various sides. Daytime visits offer the best views for seeing the decorative details clearly.

During World War II, the original bronze figure crowning the fountain was removed and later replaced with a golden angel statue. This change is a visible mark of the city's complex history.
