L'Herbe, Fishing village with oyster farms in Lège-Cap-Ferret, France.

L'Herbe is a fishing village with oyster farms in Lège-Cap-Ferret on the French Atlantic coast. Narrow streets wind past colorful wooden cabins, gardens, and traditional farming structures along the waterfront that define the character of the place.

The village began as a fishing settlement and later developed around oyster farming, a practice that remains central to its identity today. A Moorish-style chapel built in 1885 stands as a rare remnant of a past estate and marks a turning point in the area's story.

Oyster farmers continue working by hand in their waterfront huts, where visitors can taste their catch straight from the source. This way of life shapes the daily rhythm of the village and shows how deeply connected the community is to the sea.

The village has two distinct beaches: the northern Plage de l'Herbe near the oyster farming area and the southern Plage de la Chapelle by the boat dock. Both spots are easy to reach and show different sides of this coastal place.

On the third weekend of August, maritime craftspeople gather in the village to share their traditional skills and products with visitors. This seasonal gathering offers a rare chance to see working boatmakers and other specialists demonstrate their trades.
